The Whites (Lepidoptera: Pieridae, Pierinae) of Papua Indonesia
by Henk van Mastrigt
Delias aruna (Boisduval, 1832) - Orange Jezabel (belisama group)
ssp. aruna (Boisduval, 1832)
ssp. rona Rothschild, 1898
ssp. inferna Butler, 1871
Distribution
STATUS: The subspecies occurring in Papua have a peculiar distribution. Subspecies rona seems to cross the area of ssp. aruna, while ssp. inferna overlaps the area of ssp. aruna in the Baliem Valley and in the Birdshead Peninsula it is even penetrating far inside the ssp. aruna area. It is therefore doubtful if all could be considered to be subspecies rather than regional forms.
PAPUA LOCALITIES: ssp. rona: Roon Island; ssp. aruna: Pulau Mambor; New Guinea: Borme, Jayapura, Kobakma, Mapia, Waena, Wamena, Warmandi; ssp. inferna: Atuka, Langda, Meja Reserve (Manokwari), Timika, Welesi, Wouma. Details in gazetteer.
EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: ssp. rona: none; ssp. aruna: Moluccas; ssp. inferna: Papua New Guinea.
