Nyctemera (Nyctemera) clathratum (Vollenhoven, 1863)

Variation
There is a minor variation in extension of the white pattern in specimens from Ambon and Seram and those from the Raja Ampat Islands. Those from the latter are somewhat darker with slightly reduced white on both, fore and hindwing. The single specimen known from Misool lacks the dark veination on the hindwing. A specimen from Roon shows again the typical phenotype from the Moluccas (see above).
Distribution
STATUS: Not very common, in Papua rare. The occurance of this species on Roon is most peculiar. Its complete distribution is probably insufficiently known. It is, however, striking that the species is only found on (small) islands and not on the mainland of New Guinea.
