by Rob de Vos
Cleora hospita (Prout, 1916)
Distribution
STATUS: Widely distributed in New Guinea. An extremely variable and common species. Probably everywhere in mountainous areas. A constant feature in its pattern is the "T" shaped reniform spot on the forewing which is blue-grey, in illustraria this marking is often a cross and smaller. Cleora hospita is more colourful than illustraria, black and white patterned specimens seem to belong to illustraria, but more research is necessary to confirm if hospita is just a synonym of illustraria or not.
