The Tigermoths (Erebidae, Arctiinae, Arctiini) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Spilosoma holobrunnea (Joicey & Talbot, 1916)

[Diacrisia holobrunnea Joicey & Talbot, 1916] (holotype: Anggi Lakes, Arfak, in BMNH)

Actually the male of holobrunnea is unknown. However, far away from the type location of holobrunnea, males are found which externally match with the female holotype (note the resemblance of the still visible pattern on the mainly plain coloured female).

Distribution

STATUS: Very rare, in fact only known by 1 female (holotype) from the Arfak Mountains in Papua. Possible males (see above) are found in PNG. Probably restricted to mountainous areas.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: New Guinea: Anggi Lakes (Arfak). Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Probably Papua New Guinea (Patianda Watut, Morobe District).

DATA SOURCES: BMNH, CMWM. Literature (see below).
