Spilosoma costata (Boisduval, 1832)

There is some variation in the dark colour of the veins which can vary from black to chocolate brown
Distribution
STATUS: Rare. The species seems to have no particular altitude preference. Most specimens are collected in the northeastern area around Jayapura. C., F. and J. Pratt collected the species on Numfoor in 1920 and a few recent records come from the Arfak Mountains, far away from the Jayapura area.
PAPUA LOCALITIES: Numfoor; New Guinea: Ampas, Bagia (Arso district), Genyem, Gere (Arso district), Jayapura, Keerom, Ngat Biep (Arfak), Sawia (Arso district), Taja, Uskwar (Arso district), Wembi (Arso district). Details in gazetteer.
EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Papua New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago.
