The Tigermoths (Erebidae, Arctiinae, Lithosiini) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Lambulodes brunneomarginata (Rothschild, 1912)

[Lambula brunneomarginata Rothschild, 1912] [holotype: Utakwa River [Papua, Indonesia], in BMNH]

subspecies or new species?

A nice series of the above depicted fenotype was collected during the recent Foja Mountains Expedition. It is not yet clear if this concerns a subspecies of Lambulodes brunneomarginata or a new species. The specimens in this series are very uniform in appearance.

STATUS: Locally a common species, but restricted to mountain areas. Peculiar is the wide gap between Waigeo and the eastern populations on the mainland of New Guinea.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: Waigeo: Camp Nok; New Guinea: Borme, Foja Mountains, Kwerba, Landikma, Mabilabol, Mokwam, Pass Valley, Utakwa River. Details in gazetteer.
