The Tigermoths (Erebidae, Arctiinae, Arctiini) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Heliozona dulla (Pagenstecher, 1886)

[Agarista dulla Pagenstecher, 1886] (holotype: Tual, Kai Islands, in ZSMC)

Pericallia dulla aurantiaca Rothschild, 1910 (holotype: Kapaur (Fakfak), in BMNH)
Pericallia dulla borealis Rothschild, 1910 (syntypes: Dorey (Manokwari), in BMNH)
Amsacta dulla orientalis Rothschild, 1914
Creatonotus (sic) affinis Rothschild, 1935 (syntype: Humboldt Bay, in BMNH)

Taxonomical note

The definition of subspecies of this species are merely based on geographical locations rather than on significant differences in the wingpattern of the few known specimens. The species seems rather variable in the extension of the orange in the forewing fascia and hindwing margin, which is in this case not at all significant. I therefore conclude that the division of this species into subspecies is not justified.

STATUS: No recent records are known. Probably very rare.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: New Guinea: Fakfak, Humboldt Bay, Manokwari (Dorey Bay), Uskwar (Arso district). Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Kai Islands, Papua New Guinea.
