Kobowre Mountains (Weyland Mountains)

The Kobowre Mountains (Weyland Mountains) are located between the mountains of Wandammen Peninsula, Southwest Papua and the Snow Mountains (Sudirman Mountains). The mountains are of rather high altitudes, up to 3891 meter. In the east are the lakes Paniai and Tigi (formerly the Wissel Lakes). There are two larger towns in the area; in the north at the coast of the Cenderawasih Bay is Nabire and at the east coast of Lake Paniai is Enarotali. The interior of this area is entomologically almost unexplored, but some expeditions were made to Lake Paniai.

We hope to get some detailed information of the interior of this area soon. If you have information or photographs which can be used by us we would be very thankful.

Entomological expeditions

• 1920 - Charles, Felix and J. Pratt visit the Weyland Mountains and the Menoo River and Mt. Kunupi.
• 1930 - F.S. Meyer visits the Weyland Mountains.
