The Eligminae (Lepidoptera: Nolidae) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Plotheia trichocera (Hampson, 1912)

olivascens (Gaede, 1937)
atrisuffusa (Gaede, 1937)

Distribution

STATUS: A common species, widely distributed. It is a variable species but easily recognized from other species by the dark margin on the white hindwings. It is much larger and more variable than the similar Plotheia exacta (Semper, 1900) from Sundaland. Many subspecies were in use but these probably all concern geographical forms. Because of its extreme variability we here do not accept the splitting in subspecies of this species.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: Waigeo Island: Camp Nok; New Guinea: Abmisibil, Benyas, Bokondini, Borme, Fakfak (Kapaur), Landikma, Mt. Lina (Cyclops), Mabilabol (Sibil), Moanemani, Ninay Valley, Ubrub, Wembi. Details in gazetteer.

EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Papua New Guinea, Queensland (Australia), Solomon Islands.

DATA SOURCES: BMNH, KSP, ZMAN.
