Distribution

STATUS: Hypochrysops polycletus is a widespread and common species ranging from the Moluccas (Seram, Halmahera) through New Guinea to the Eastern New Guinea Islands and Northern Australia. Subspecific separation of PNG subspecies is based much on the varying width of the discocellular red band on the hindwing underside (Sands, 1986). Sands also pointed out that a wide geographical variation exists within polycletus, and that a separation of new subspecies may be needed.
