The Euteliinae (Lepidoptera: Euteliidae) of Papua Indonesia
by Rob de Vos
Penicillaria dorsipuncta (Hampson, 1912)
Identification
Penicillaria dorsipuncta, P. maculata and P. pratti are similar in pattern and colour. There are, however, distinct characters which make them easy to distinguish.
The apical patch or streak is of different shape in all three species (see above). In dorsipuncta the subbasal line is deeply but regularly curved, in maculata this line is less curved, alsmost straight and in pratti this line is straight and oblique, running to the middle of the wing costa. The tornal area also differs in intensity of white and the presence of white lines. The submarginal line is running differently in all three species (see above).
