The Hawkmoths (SPHINGIDAE, Macroglossinae) of Papua Indonesia
by Willem Hogenes
Macroglossum adustum Rothschild & Jordan, 1916
Only few captures are known of this rare species. Its distribution is therefore likely not completely known. Jan Beck and Ian J. Kitching mention this species from the Solomon Islands only but in ZMAN there is an old female specimen from "Hollandia" (now Jayapura) which very much resembles adustum. Although it is not 100% certain yet we asume that its identity is correct. For the time being we list the species for New Guinea.
STATUS: Its occurance in Papua is not yet certain (see note). This very rare species has previously been found on the Solomon Islands only.
PAPUA LOCALITIES: New Guinea: Jayapura. Details in gazetteer.
EXTERNAL DISTRIBUTION: Solomon Islands.
