The Ghost Moths (Lepidoptera: Hepialidae) of Papua Indonesia

by Rob de Vos

Oxycanus diakonoffi (Viette, 1956)

[Paraoxycanus diakonoffi Viette, 1956] (TL: Mist Camp, Dutch New Guinea; type: RMNH)

endemic species

females of Oxycanus species are rarely seen

Oxycanus diakonoffi shows a wide range of variation and makes it therefore very difficult to distinguish it from other related species. The male genitalia (left figure) form the best characters for 100 % certainty.

STATUS: A common species, but it seems restricted to the Jayawijaya Mountains.

PAPUA LOCALITIES: New Guinea: Mist Camp, Top Camp, Walmak. Details in gazetteer.
